I can't be at the meeting today, so I hope that someone can make an announcement on my behalf and that of the CODE-PEOPLE committee. Our next meeting is all about JavaScript, and the main speaker will be Zachary Johnson, one of the founders of WEB-STANDARDS, so it should be of interest to many in this group. We also strongly invite people to give lightning talks about JavaScript.

Below is the draft meeting announcement. I'll forward the official announcement once it goes out, too.

Thank you!

Our next meeting will be Thursday October 4th from 9:30-11:30am in 402 Walter Library.
We’ll be exploring a popular and powerful server-side Javascript software environment, node.js, and related tools with our guest speaker, Zachary Johnson. Zach is a local freelance software developer with a deep love for and a ton of experience with Javascript, node and related technologies.  Zach will tell us a little bit about why and when he chooses node and will demonstrate both his development process and completed Node projects.  It promises to be an exciting ride!

We would also like to encourage you to share your experiences with Javascript MVC frameworks, server side Javascript or any cool Javascript projects on which you might be working.  We will reserve fifteen minutes or so for you to share this work through lightning talks.

Finally, we will break into small groups to explore, document and report back on your challenges and opportunities presented by the highly dynamic contemporary Javascript development scene.

Please feel free to join us for lunch even if you can’t make the meeting!

10:15 - 10:30 Lightning Talks
10:30 - 11:00 Group discussions

Karen,

Dan Kunitz has very kindly been videotaping these and many of the videos have been posted on our shiny new website that uses Wordpress.

Also, I haven't discussed it w/ the rest of the committee yet, but I'm very interested in the recent Google Hangout/YouTube integration as a way to stream these meetings. Watch for more info in the near future.

Thanks,

Tony

Hello everyone!

Don't forget that our Web Standards meeting, the first one of the
academic year, is today!

Amanda Costello will present her latest:

"I Don't Have Your Ph.D. - Working with Faculty and the Web"

How do you make sense of and promote faculty research if you have no
background in their subject area, let alone an advanced degree? How
can you work with difficult faculty personalities, from the complete
technophobe to the extreme early adopter? This session will draw from
Amanda’s experience as a web designer and content strategist in the
College of Education and Human Development. Learn how to channel your
faculty’s expertise into great web content, and build their trust in
your knowledge and skills. Bring your questions, triumphs and war
stories!

The pizza order is going in shortly after 10 a.m., so if you haven't
already, PLEASE RSVP at the link below by 10:10 to ensure an adequate
supply.

Location: 325 Education Sciences Time: As always, food and networking
from about 11:30 to noon, then we'll start the presentation.

Please RSVP at:
