The University IT community has been evaluating new web content management systems (CMS) to better serve the University’s needs. After evaluating several products and viewing various product demonstrations, the decision was made to acquire Drupal as the University’s new enterprise-level CMS. This is a systemwide initiative available to and supporting all system campuses.

It is anticipated that Drupal will be available early this summer. In addition, a pilot for interested users will be available in the next few months. Information about participation in the pilot group will be shared as soon as it is available.

UMContent, the University’s current web CMS is scheduled for eventual retirement. As of right now, the plan is to continue to have UMContent available through at least November 2014.

Options for migrating content from UMContent to Drupal will be evaluated. For web content needs that may not require a robust enterprise-level system, other content management applications including Google Sites, WordPress and others will be available.

More information on the Drupal implementation plan and other options will be shared as it becomes available. News, information and updates will be posted on the project website at https://sites.google.com/a/umn.edu/web-cms-drupal-initiative-news-information-and-updates/.
