John Collier <[log in to unmask]> Editor, Semiotics, Energy, Evoluton Development I am editor of an online journal, Semiosis, Evolution, Energy, Development, ISSN 1492-3157 http://www.library.utoronto.ca/see/pages/SEED_Journal.html The Journal is based on the University of Toronto Library computer, and thus is accessible to all internet connected university libraries as well as to individuals. The location of the journal ensures that its site will be permanently archived. If you know of anyone else who might be interested in publishing in SEED, please pass this on or send their names to me. From the heading: The past 50 years have seen the introduction of information as a physical entity with a mathematical theory. In the last ten years, connections have been developed to energy, evolution and development, as well as to signs, representation, interpretation and the mind. Many of these developments are controversial, such as whether information is intrinsically related to meaning, whether there is a general semiotics that extends beyond human signs, and whether, indeed, there is anything well-defined outside of human theories. This journal deals with these and related issues. There is a deadline for the first issue of early October, so if you have current papers you would like to see published, now is your chance. All papers are peer refereed. Instructions for Authors Any paper within the scope of the Journal will be considered for publication. Authors can request to have their submissions double blind refereed. Electronic copies should be sent to the Editor, John Collier, at [log in to unmask] The Editor's policy is to have at least two reports on each paper, preferably from different viewpoints. Since this is such an interdisciplinary area, the Editor welcomes suggestions from authors for appropriate referees. The Editor will make the final decision on referees and acceptance of papers. The Journal's ISSN number is 1492-3157. Articles will be archived at a suitable site once libraries and publishers agree on procedures. Papers should be submitted in postscript, MSWord, WordPerfect or PDF format. The last is most preferable. Submissions in Tex or dvi format may involve some delay. Authors are encouraged to use html format if they are familiar with that format. Some of the newer versions of word processors allow hyperlinking in both their own and html format. For an example of how this might be used, click on the reference date in the next paragraph. Links to other articles in the journal are probably sound. Links to off-site locations should be used only with extreme caution. Publication will be on the web at this site. Links can be established using the URL of the linked article. Footnotes should be limited, and placed at the bottom of each page. If possible, a hypertext link to footnotes and references would helpful. There is no set limitation on article length, but articles of more than 10000 words may involve greater delays. Diagrams and figures should be positioned in the text by the author, numbered and captioned. If the article is in html format, be sure to include a descriptive title for the graphic in the html code. Links to larger versions of graphics may be suitable in some cases. References should be in the form (Shannon and Weaver 1949: 99). Page numbers should be included in references if required. References like (Marx, Kapital) with no page numbers are of little value, and should be avoided. The submitted version of the paper should be as close to the electronically published version as possible (barring revisions that may be required). References Shannon, C.E. and W.
