The upgrade process is largely complete, but JEOL is working on interfacing the EDS subsystem with the new generation of TAMS HP-IB interface cards. My understanding is that JEOL Japan is working on recompiling/rewriting software to do so. I've been assured that JEOL is committed to making this work since, well, there really is no choice now that c8000 workstations are the only ones available. I receive calls or e-mails periodically with updates. I do have two 73-GB hard drives, which means I won't have to send out threatening e-mails to users ("Get your map files off the workstation or I will") for some time -- everyone is happy. I opted for 1 GB of RAM, which is plenty considering that my old HP 9000 745i has something like 64 MB of RAM. You can save $2000 or $3000 by insisting on 1 GB of RAM instead of 4 GB, which you absolutely don't need for our purposes.
