[Note there is a reference to you sending your G-Probe account number...I assume this is not critical]. Contact Stephen Wilson if you wish to receive material and participate. ======================================================================= Date: July 2006 Ref: G-Probe-3 Dear Colleague, I am pleased to say that the International Association of Geoanalysts is now ready to lauch round 3 of the G-Probe proficiency testing programme designed for microbeam laboratories involved in the routine analysis of silicate minerals. The G-probe-3 sample is a fused silicated glass prepared by Stephen Wilson, US Geological Survey, Denver, Colorado, USA. If you would like to participate in the G-Probe-3 round, the sample must be claimed from the USGS at any time before the end of October 2006. Laboratories are then requested to mount, polish and analyse two pieces of the glass and submit results to the organisers by 15th December 206 in accordance with the instructions that will be sent out with the sample. If you would like to participate in G-Probe-3, please request a sample by sending your FULL POSTAL ADDRESS and G-Probe account number (see address label) to: Dr Stephen Wilson, Coordinator, USGS Reference Material Project, USGS, Box 25046 MS 973, Denver Federal Center, Denver, CO 80225, USA email [log in to unmask] Yours sincerely, Phil Potts The Open University Walton Hall Milton Keynes UK MK7 6AA [log in to unmask] ======================================================================= -- ======================================================== John Fournelle, Ph.D. office: (608) 262-7964 cell: (608) 438-7480 Cameron Electron Microprobe Lab lab: (608) 265-4798 Dept of Geology & Geophysics fax: (608) 262-0693 University of Wisconsin home: (608) 274-2245 1215 West Dayton St. email: [log in to unmask] Madison, WI 53706 amateur radio: WA3BTA Personal http://www.geology.wisc.edu/~johnf/ Probe lab http://www.geology.wisc.edu/~johnf/sx51.html Probe Sign Up Calender: http://www.microscopy.wisc.edu/cgi-bin/calendar/microprobe/calendar.cgi "The first rule of all intelligent tinkering is to save every cog and wheel." -- Aldo Leopold "For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." -- Richard P.
