1. An interdisciplinary conference, "Understanding
Human Variation", will be held at the University of Alberta,
Edmonton, Canada, on
September 21-22, 2007. The conference will
be preceded by a workshop on
September 20 and the morning of
Sept 21 on the broader theme of the project, "What Sorts of
People Should There Be?" Free advance registration is
encouraged.

2. Scholars from the fields of genetics, medical and
social history, social medicine, philosophy, medical ethics,
anthropology and communication studies are invited to submit
contributions to the 3nd International workshop in "Genetics,
history and public understanding" on the theme of "Hope,
trust and troubled dreams of genetics," to be held in
Barcelona,
30-31 May 2008. The workshop will precede the 2008
European Society for Human Genetics meeting, to be held in
Barcelona
June 1-3, 2008.

3. The National Center for Science Education, a non-profit
organization that defends the teaching of evolution in the public
schools, seeks candidates for a position in its Public Information
Project. Materials must arrive by
July 9, 2007, to be
considered.

4. The SILFS Conference 2007 will be held in Milan, Italy,
from
8th to 10th October 2007. Contributions, in the form
of papers or posters, are invited on all topics pertaining the six
areas of the conference: 1) Probability & General Philosophy of
Science, 2) Logic, Computing & AI, 3) Physics & Mathematics,
4) Life Sciences, 5) Neuroscience & Philosophy of Mind, 6)
Economics & Social Sciences. The deadline for submission
is
July 15, 2007.

in Foundations of Life Science and Their Ethical Consequences, a joint
program of University of Milano and European School of Molecular
