Health Care Policy Public Debate
Community Leaders,

The University of Minnesota Debate Team is sponsoring a Public Debate tomorrow evening over Health Care Policy in America.  The speakers, as well as the logistics, are in a press release below as well as in the attached flyer.

There will be time allocated for questions and speeches from the floor, the latter of which will be great opportunities to give a plug for your organization and it's opinion on the topic at hand.  Please feel free to distribute this information to your networks and contacts and we hope to see you tomorrow evening.

Health Care Policy:  Should it be Consumer-Driven or Government Mandated?   Public Debate Will Draw Unique Perspectives, Sharp Distinctions

Minneapolis (April 15, 2008) – A pro-single payer health-care legislator and physician versus a conservative think-tank guru and doctor experienced (and turned off) in the ways of government-run health care will square off on the U of M's West Bank.  That's just the beginning of Wednesday night's debate titled:

"The Future of Health Care in America:  Consumer Driven vs. Single Payer System."

To be held:
Willey Hall Lecture Hall 125; University of Minnesota West Bank
Wednesday April 16, 2008
Arrive at 6:45.  Debate begins 7 pm.
Duration:  1 hour

The debate is sponsored by University of Minnesota Debate Team, who is seeking to encourage debate over prominent public issues within the community.  The debaters are:
Consumer-Driven Argument:
1.    Peter Nelson:  Health care policy expert and fellow at the Center for the American Experiment.
2.    Dr. Lee Kurisko:  Physician and health care activist formerly a Canadian physician who has first-hand knowledge and experience with "involvement by government in the delivery of health care."
Single Payer Argument:
1.    Representative Shelley Madore:  Freshman legislator and supporter of Single payer health care policy in the Minnesota House.  Besides her advocacy, she has a powerful personal story about her experience with America's broken health care system.
2.    Dr. Elizabeth Frost:  Physician and health care activist who is a leader of Physicians for a National Health Plan.
