1. Call for papers, poster sessions, and panel discussions for a
multi- and inter- disciplinary conference on Evolution, the
Environment, and Responsible Knowledge, to be held January 26-28, 2009
at the University of Central Florida, Orlando, FL. Proposals/abstracts
are accepted
between September 30th and November 3rd, 2008.
Those received
by October 15th will be reviewed by an expedited
process.

2. The University of Central Florida's Quality Enhancement Plan
for Information Fluency and the Department of Philosophy are pleased
to announce the creation of a new blog, "Environment, Evolution,
and Responsible Knowledge," The blog is for inter- and
multi-disciplinary discussion of ideas, theories, principles,
concepts, opinions, news, and other information regarding the
environment, evolution, and responsible knowledge.

3. The Sydney Centre for the Foundations of Science, the
University of Sydney's new interdisciplinary research centre
established to foster collaborations between humanities researchers
and scientists, was officially opened on 31st July 2008. Members
hold major research grants in the areas of philosophy of biology,
decision theory, philosophy of language, and philosophy of physics.
Extra funding of up to $7000 per annum (tax free) on top of the usual
PhD Scholarships is available for selected students working on
suitable projects in these areas.

4. Conference: "Life of the cell: Philosophy & history
of cell research,"
April 23rd and 24th, 2009, at Egenis,
University of Exeter, UK. A number of issues related to cells
and cell biology will be investigated from historical, philosophical
and scientific perspectives.

5. The University of Waterloo Centre for Knowledge Integration
invites applications for a tenure track position at the rank of
Assistant Professor. Area of scholarship is open, but a
commitment to interdisciplinary undergraduate education is essential.

11. The Graduate Program in Critical and Creative Thinking at
UMass Boston now offers a track/emphasis on science (especially the
life and environmental sciences) in the context of conceptual
development and of social change. This emphasis/track within the
15 credit graduate certificate and 33 credit M.A. program of studies
is designed for educators and other concerned citizens who want to
explore the relationships among new developments in scientific
knowledge, in education, and in society.
