This is the Duluth Birding Report for Thursday, July 16th, 2009 sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.
Two AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS were seen on the 7th by Jan and Larry Kraemer at Fish Lake Reservoir north of Duluth. Julie O'Connor saw a singing male RED CROSSBILL on the 7th in downtown Duluth at Lake Place Park.
Howard Weinberg found BOREAL CHICKADEES in Lake County on the 15th along the Stoney River Forest Road, 6 miles north of Forest Highway 11.
The first shorebirds of the fall migration season have been noted recently. A LESSER YELLOWLEGS was seen in Two Harbors at Agate Bay on the 4th, and a flock of 15 LEAST SANDPIPERS was seen on the 12th at Stewart Lake in Lake County.
