This is the Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday, October 29th 2009.
On October 29th, a possible FERRUGINOUS HAWK was seen briefly near the town of Wilmont in Nobles County, though I have no specific location.
A GLAUCOUS GULL was at Spring Lake Regional Park in Dakota County on the 27th. A GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULL was seen on the 27th at the end of Park Point in Duluth, and a GLAUCOUS GULL was there on the 28th. A THAYER'S GULL was at nearby Canal Park on the 28th. A LONG-TAILED DUCK was seen on the 26th at the Park Point rowing club, and three WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS were at 36th Street on bay side of Park Point.
Seven WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS and two BLACK SCOTERS were reported on the 23rd at Paradise Beach in Cook County, and eight LONG-TAILED DUCKS were along state highway 61 between mile markers 117 and 118 on the same day. A SURF SCOTER was found on the 24th at the Silver Bay marina in Cook County, and another has been on Pickeral Lake in Freeborn County since the 25th.
A TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE was at the Ann Lake campground of the Sherburne NWR on the 27th.
Unusual is the very late PROTHONOTARY WARBLER being seen in Bloomington, Hennepin County. Since the 27th it's been found on the trail that runs west from the Old Cedar Avenue Bridge parking lot near the middle of the second boardwalk. A BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER was seen on the 19th along West River Parkway in Hennepin County. A few PINE GROSBEAKS have been reported in northern Minnesota,
