11, 2010 sponsored by the Detroit Lakes Regional Chamber of Commerce.

It has been a cold week, but the northwest did not get the snow that
other parts of the state got. Sunshine at this time of year is magical,
and lifts everyone's spirits, including the birds.

From Becker County, Beau Shroyer reported sighting 15 WHITE-WINGED
CROSSBILLS in the 1200 block of Lake Avenue in Detroit Lakes on February
8. The first PINE SISKINS were also seen this week.

Dennis Weisenborn in Clay County saw a NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL in north
Moorhead south of the toll bridge along the Red River of the North on
February 6.

In Polk County, Diana Morkassel saw a dozen SHARP-TAILED GROUSE along US
75 south of Euclid on February 5. Sandy Aubol found one BOHEMIAN WAXWING
and five CEDAR WAXWINGS in her neighborhood of East Grand Forks on
February 7.

Maggie Anderson reported PINE SISKINS in Thief River Falls, Pennington
County, on February 10.

Diana Morkassel in Marshall County on February 5 reported a GREAT HORNED
OWL, AMERICAN ROBIN, WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS, and PINE SISKINS at her
place east of Warren.

A NORTHERN HAWK OWL was seen by Shelley Steva in Clearwater County on
February 6, two miles east of Shevlin along US 2.

Carol Parker called to report a female NORTHERN CARDINAL visiting her
yard in Warroad, Roseau County ever since November 18. The bird has been
sheltering under a nearby porch and eating from the feeder. Carol also
reported seeing a PILEATED WOODPECKER in the area. Jeff Siverhus saw 30
BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS in their crabapple trees on February 4. PINE SISKINS
are also visiting their yard this week.

Larry Wilebski reported RUFFED GROUSE this week in Kittson County.

Thanks to Beau Shroyer, Beth and Jeff Siverhus, Carol Parker, Dennis
Weisenborn, Diana Morkassel, Larry Wilebski, Maggie Anderson, Sandy
Aubol, and Shelley Steva for their reports.
