This is the Duluth Birding Report for September 10th, 2010 sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

Two BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS were found by Kim Eckert on the 10th at the Park Point Recreation Area. A shortly time later Kim saw two more from the 31st Street Lafayette Square access, as well as a flock of about 80 SANDERLINGS. Peder Svingen saw two adult light-morph PARASITIC JAEGERS on the 6th at Wisconsin Point.

Two BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKERS flew by the Hawk Ridge overlook on the 9th and a BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER flew by on the 3rd. The first SNOW GEESE, AMERICAN PIPIT and RUSTY BLACKBIRD of the season were seen on the 4th and the first CACKLING GOOSE was seen on the 7th. AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS and SANDHILLS CRANES have been seen in good numbers during the past week.

A RED-HEADED WOODPECKER was seen at Hawk Ridge on the 5th, and Sandy Roggenkamp had one on the 8th at her feeders near Canyon.
