This is the Duluth Birding Report for October 28th, 2010 sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

A CALIFORNIA GULL was seen by Mike Hendrickson on the 27th on the Minnesota side of the Superior Entry. Mike also saw a PARASITIC JAEGER on Wisconsin Point at the first parking lot. Kim Eckert saw a BLACK SCOTER and four WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS on the 27th on Park Point at 12th Street, and an adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL on the Minnesota side of the Superior Entry. Jeanne Tanamachi saw nine WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS and six BLACK SCOTERS on the 23rd at Stoney Point. Twenty-six GOLDEN EAGLES were seen on the 28th at Hawk Ridge.

Seventeen BLACK SCOTERS, 14 WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS, seven SURF SCOTERS, and three LONG-TAILED DUCKS were seen on the 27th at Burlington Bay in Two Harbors. Ben Stubbs saw three TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRES on the 23rd at Burlington Bay along 1st Street. A RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER was seen on the 27th at 4th Avenue and 2nd Street.

John Hockema and others saw three WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS on the 23rd in Hovland, and four BLACK SCOTERS at Five Mile Rock east of Grand Marais. Jerry Bonkoski saw a BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER on the 24th at Cascade River State Park.

Nancy Jackson saw an AMERICAN THREE-TOED WOODPECKER on the 25th at Fisherman's Point in Hoyt Lakes.

Warren Nelson and Bill Stauffer saw a GREAT GRAY OWL on the 24th in Aitkin County along CR 18, 3.7 miles east of US Highway 169. Shawn Conrad saw a BLACK SCOTER on the 23rd in Itasca County on Lake Winnibigoshish at Plughat Point.
