This is the Duluth Birding Report for November 27th, 2010 sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.
Karl Bardon found a juvenile PACIFIC LOON on the 26th on the lake side of the Park Point Recreation Area. Karl also found an adult CALIFORNIA GULL on the 23rd on the Minnesota side of the Superior Entry. This is apparently a different individual than the one found earlier in the month at the same location. Peder Svingen saw four THAYER'S GULLS and a GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULL on the 21st at Canal Park in Duluth. Frank Berdan saw seven WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS on the 25th on Lake Superior at 9402 Congdon Drive. Jan and Larry Kraemer saw a flock of 15 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS on the 21st at Page Street and Foster Avenue in Duluth Heights.
A SPRUCE GROUSE was found on the 21st by Sparky Stensaas along Lake County Road 2, 3.5 miles north of Greenwood Creek. Sparky also reported that neither the Stony River Forest Road nor the Whyte Road were plowed.
Jeremy Ridlbauer reported a LONG-EARED OWL west of Grand Marais on the 22nd near the intersection of CR 42 and CR 44, off CR 7. Warren Nelson saw a GREAT GRAY OWL in Aitkin County on the 23rd along CR 18, 0.4 mile west of the Pietz's Road (320th Lane).
