Spring is on the way, believe it or not. Flocks of HORNED LARKS are
being reported in all counties of the northwest this week. There are
also reports of BALD EAGLES near last year's nest in several places this
week. Meanwhile we are back in the freezer for another week, but not
quite as cold as previously.

Bob Williams found a flock of 100 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS in the town of
Mahnomen on February 18.

In Polk County, Bruce Flaig reported a NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL on his
property in the southern part of the county on February 18. COMMON
REDPOLLS and one HOARY REDPOLL were observed by Bob Williams at a farm
south of Erskine along US 59 that day. Shelley Steva reported a BALD
EAGLE five miles north of Gully, and Sandy Aubol saw one near a nest on
the north side of East Grand Forks this week.

At Agassiz NWR in Marshall County, Maggie Anderson reported that a BALD
EAGLE is back near the nest at Parker Pool, and another was seen at Dahl
Pool on February 18. HORNED LARKS have been seen east of Middle River.
Bob Williams saw COMMON REDPOLLS, one HOARY REDPOLL, and a SHARP-TAILED
GROUSE at Agassiz NWR headquarters on February 18. BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS
were seen in Middle River, and a NORTHERN SHRIKE was along CR 6.

In Kittson County on February 21 Larry Wilebski found a SNOWY OWL one
miles south of Lancaster. Bob Williams visited Larry Wilebski's cabin on
February 19 where he found a PINE GROSBEAK, COMMON REDPOLLS, and at
least one HOARY REDPOLL. Also in the area were HORNED LARKS, and LAPLAND
LONGSPURS.

In Roseau County on February 19, Bob Williams found two NORTHERN HAWK
OWS along CR 310 north of Roseau. A ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK and a NORTHERN
SHRIKE were also seen in the county.
