This is the Duluth Birding Report for June 15th, 2011 sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

Raoul Beunen found a NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD near the visitor center building at Split Rock Lighthouse State Park on the 5th. Chris and Cindy Edwardson found three BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLERS on the 5th along the Superior Hiking Trail from the trail center at Tettegouche State Park to Mt. Trudee.

Peder Svingen found a WHIMBREL on the 7th at the Park Point Recreation Area, and it was still present on the 14th. Peder relocated the immature GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULL on the Minnesota side of the Superior Entry on the 6th, representing the first summer record of this species in the state. Seven RED-THROATED LOONS were seen on the 9th at the Lafayette Square 31st Street access on Park Point, and one was seen at the recreation area. Two TUNDRA SWANS were seen on the 9th in the Duluth harbor near 40th Avenue West.

Shawn Conrad found a NELSON'S SPARROW on the 9th at the McGregor Marsh in Aitkin County on the west side of MN Highway 65, 0.2 mile south of MN Highway 210. He also heard several YELLOW RAILS in the same area.
