This is the Duluth Birding Report for November 10th, 2011 sponsored by
the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

A gray morph GYRFALCON flew past Hawk Ridge on the 3rd, heading towards
downtown Duluth. Dave Willard found a HARLEQUIN DUCK on the 6th near
Barker's Island in Superior. Erik Bruhnke saw an adult THAYER'S GULL on
the 9th in Canal Park. As many as nine THAYER’S GULLS and a second-cycle
LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL have been seen recently on the Minnesota side
of the Superior Entry. Erik saw a FRANKLIN’S GULL on the 7th at the
first parking lot at the base of Wisconsin Point. Chris Mansfield found
a record late RED-EYED VIREO in Duluth on the 7th along the Lakewalk
just east of the rose garden.

A TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE was seen on the 9th in Duluth Township along the
West Knife River Road, 0.3 mile west of the north end of the Homestead
Road (CR 42). Doug Keiser and others saw two SURF SCOTERS, one BLACK
SCOTER, and three WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS at Taconite Harbor in Cook County
on the 7th. They also saw a SPRUCE GROUSE south of Isabella on the Stony
River Forest Road, about one mile north of the Whyte Road. A SHORT-EARED
OWL was seen on the 8th at the Two Harbors golf course.
