This is the Duluth Birding Report for December 2nd, 2011 sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

A very late GRASSHOPPER SPARROW was photographed by Erik Bruhnke on the 30th and the 1st along Scenic Highway 61 near Pine Tree Road, about 0.5 mile south of the French River. Mike Hendrickson found a late EASTERN BLUEBIRD on the 1st at the mouth of the French River. A late-lingering YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER was reported by Stephen Bockhold and Jeff Newman on the 28th near 44th Avenue East and Regent Street. Dave Grosshuesch saw a YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER at the Tofte Ranger Station on the 30th. Tim Dawson saw a MEADOWLARK on the 28th at 47th Avenue East and McCulloch Street behind Sammy's Pizza.

The adult male BARROW'S GOLDENEYE in the Duluth Harbor was relocated on the 29th by Jan and Larry Kraemer at 33rd Street on Park Point.

Warren Nelson found a SNOWY OWL on the 1st in Aitkin County about two miles north of the Mississippi River on CR 1 at 380th Lane.
