This is the Duluth Birding Report for December 8th, 2011 sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

Two SNOWY OWLS were reported by Mike Hendrickson on the 5th in the railroad yards at the Port Terminal in Duluth. The Tofte Minnesota Conservation Corps crew found a SNOWY OWL on the 6th at Tettegouche State Park on the west side of the Baptism River north of MN Highway 61. Steve and Deb Falkowski found a SNOWY OWL on the 4th about eight miles southwest of Virginia on the Santi Road, one block north of MN Highway 37.

Mike Hendrickson and Peder Svingen saw an ICELAND GULL, three GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULLS, two GLAUCOUS GULLS, and a THAYER'S GULL on the 5th at Canal Park. Don Kienholz found three late HORNED LARKS and two WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS on the 7th at Bayfront Park. Jan Kraemer saw a flock of 22 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS on the 4th in the Duluth Heights neighborhood at West Page and Foster Street. Stephen Bockhold reports that the late-lingering YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER near 44th Avenue East and Regent Street was still present on the 6th.
