This is the Duluth Birding Report for April 5th, 2012 sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

An apparent hybrid COMMON GOLDENEYE X BARROW'S GOLDENEYE was found on the 1st by Peder Svingen in the Duluth Harbor between 32nd and 33rd Street on Park Point. Peder counted exceptional numbers of waterfowl on the 1st between Hearding Island and the Park Point Recreation Area, including nearly 1,700 COMMON GOLDENEYES, almost 700 GREATER SCAUP, nearly 600 LESSER SCAUP, and more than 500 REDHEADS.

New arrivals in the area during the past week include YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER, EASTERN PHOEBE, CHIPPING SPARROW, and BROWN-HEADED COWBIRD.
