It's possible that many of the disappearances of Brown Pelicans after they turn up in Wisconsin and Minnesota are due to their fishing technique. When they're in the ocean, water depth is pretty reliable out from shore. Not so in many lakes. It would be a very rude awakening to hit a rocky bottom.
