TRB
92nd Annual Meeting January 13-17, 2013 *Call Title:* Experimental
Economics/Cognitive Psychology of Road
Pricing<http://pressamp.trb.org/CallForPapers/CFPDetail.asp?cid=1471>
*Sponsoring Committee:* ABE25 - Congestion Pricing *Co-Sponsoring
Committee(s):* ABE20 - Transportation Economics *Call Description:* The
United States devotes substantial resources to research and develop more
efficient transportation systems. Energy-efficient transportation, however,
depends not only on vehicle technology (e.g. improved miles-per-gallon),
road network and transit services, but also on the individual choices of
transportation users. Behavioral Economics/Cognitive Psychology has been
successfully used in many fields to understand the power of price and
non-price incentives on the actions of economic agents. For example,
behavioral economics has been successfully employed to develop large-scale
business and policy innovations for household energy conservation (one
example is "OPower" providing homeowners and renters with comparative data
on their in-home energy use in a manner that gently prods recipients to
reduce their energy consumption). The Committee is interested in research
that provides analysis to show how experimental economics can improve
transportation planning, and design and evaluation of road pricing,
vehicle-use pricing (such as for car insurance), or parking pricing
projects by incorporating a variety approaches designed to produce more
efficient patterns of use. The committee is also interested in research
concerning the decision making processes of public agencies with respect to
transportation pricing.
