This is the Duluth Birding Report for July 6th, 2012 sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.
DICKCISSELS are widespread in Minnesota this summer, including many locations in the more forested northeastern counties. In the past two weeks they have been found in fields near Deer River and Grand Rapids in Itasca County, in the Sax-Zim Bog, near Grassy Point in west Duluth, near Wrenshall and Carlton in Carlton County, in Duluth Township, and in Lake County west of Two Harbors.
Jan and Larry Kraemer saw two late HORNED GREBES on June 22nd on Lake Superior near the McQuade Road safe harbor, and Jan Green saw one on the 5th southwest of here out from the Spruce Court Road. A WESTERN KINGBIRD was seen at the Two Harbors cemetery on the 3rd, but it has not been seen since.
