This is the Duluth Birding Report for December 14th, 2012 sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

A HARLEQUIN DUCK was found on the 12th by Jan and John Green in the Grand Marais harbor. Peder Svingen found a WESTERN GREBE at Agate Bay in Two Harbors on the 2nd and it was relocated on the 8th. He also saw a WHITE-WINGED SCOTER at Agate Bay that was relocated as recently as on the 9th. Deb Falkowski saw two RUDDY DUCKS on the 2nd at Silver Lake in Virginia.

A SNOWY OWL was seen at Burning Tree Plaza near the Duluth mall area on the 7th. Another was seen on the 10th on the Lavaque Road just north of Maple Grove Road in Hermantown.

GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULLS, ICELAND GULLS, THAYER'S GULLS, and GLAUCOUS GULLS continue to be seen at Canal Park in Duluth. Mike Hendrickson saw a late GADWALL on the 10th at Canal Park.
