We thought that winter weather had finally come, but now the snow is all
gone, and cold remains. That may be remedied this weekend as more is
promised. Winter birds and northern specialties are being seen in many
locations making birding very interesting.

corn fields south of Ottertail on CR 78 on November 30 and still there
on December 6. In Fergus Falls, they saw 22 COMMON REDPOLLS on December
6.

Marshall Howe in Hubbard County on December 4 saw a dark phase
ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, and on the 5th , eight PINE GROSBEAKS came to his
yard. December 6th , he saw 40 COMMON REDPOLLS, and one HOARY REDPOLL
was among the group.

Dave and Betty Hochhalter on November 30 reported a NORTHERN CARDINAL,
and both PINE GROSBEAK and EVENING GROSBEAK in Detroit Lakes in Becker
County. Lori Naumann reported a EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVE in Detroit Lakes

in East Grand Forks in Polk County since December 2. Vanessa Lane was at

Here in Pennington County, a BROWN CREEPER has been seen several times
in the yard, most recently on December 1.

Tim Driscoll brought 4 of his students to the Beltrami Island State
Forest on December 1. While there, Vayla Van Dyke, Mark Jackson, Krista
Kenyon, and Jordan Duvall saw many northern forest birds. In Beltrami
County they reported BALD EAGLES, 36 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS, GREAT HORNED
OWL, NORTHERN HAWK OWL, BLACK-BILLED MAGPIE, NORTHERN SHRIKE and SNOW
