This is the Duluth Birding Report for May 3rd, 2013 sponsored by the
Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

A NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD was found by Dave Benson on the 29th on Park

Mike Hendrickson and others saw ten sparrow species including a
LECONTE'S SPARROW, a VESPER SPARROW, and 450 AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS. Kim
Eckert saw a late HOARY REDPOLL with six Common Redpolls on the 30th
near Hearding Island on Park Point. Sparky Stensaas saw a SURF SCOTER on
the 29th near the rowing club.

Peder Svingen documented an impressive movement of waterfowl along Park
Point on the 28th and 29th, including 20 waterfowl species, a Minnesota
record high total of more than 7,600 GREATER SCAUP, and more than 4,100
HORNED GREBES, the second highest total for the state. Peder counted 14
RED-THROATED LOONS on the 29th along Park Point between 22nd Street and
the Sky Harbor Airport.

Jan Green saw 55 AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS flying over Gary New-Duluth on
the 27th. Three WILLETS were seen on the 2nd at Agate Bay in Two
Harbors. David Brislance saw a LECONTE'S SPARROW on the 28th at his home
near Lutsen in Cook County.

Warren Nelson and Butch Ukura found a LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE on the 28th
along Aitkin County Road 1, 7.5 miles north of Aitkin.
