This is the Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday July 4th, 2013.

A NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD was found on June 29th along the Gunflint Trail in Cook County just north of Greenwood Lake Road. It was in a large clearing on north side of South Broule River.

On July 4th, Craig Mandel found YELLOW RAILS and NELSON'S SPARROWS at the McGregor Marsh in Aitkin County. The birds were heard along state highway 65 just south of highway 210.

Randy Frederickson reported a BELL'S VIREO south of Willmar in Kandiyohi County on June 20th. From the junction of highways 23 and 71 south of Willmar, go south on highway 71 for four and a half miles. Turn west on to 105th Avenue SE, then north on 7th Street SW. Drive to the wildlife management area and look for the vireo on the east side of the road in the NW corner of the shelter belt.

HENSLOW'S SPARROWS have been heard at Sherburne NWR in Sherburne County. Check east of the Blue Hill Trail trailhead on the north side of county road 9. Another has been seen near the Prairie Trail parking area on the Prairie's Edge Wildlife Drive. And one was in Benton County on the 2nd, on the north side of 155th Street NE (two miles south of the Morrison County line), about 100 yards west of 195th Avenue (the Mille Lacs County line).

And an early BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER was seen July 1st on the lake side of Park Point in Duluth .
