2013 sponsored by the Detroit Lakes Regional Chamber of Commerce. You

This has been a relatively stormy week in the northwest with several
lively thunderstorms that dropped some heavy rain in some places, and
hail in others. Young birds are everywhere while adults are trying to
teach them how to survive.

July 19.

In Polk County on July 23, Russ Wilbur found a COOPER'S HAWK nest with
three young on the East Grand Forks Greenway along the Red River. Pat
Wilbur spotted a GREEN HERON on the east side of the Red River just
south of the pedestrian bridge on July 24. On July 23, Sandy Aubol
reported two GREAT HORNED OWLS, RED-HEADED WOODPECKER, PILEATED
WOODPECKER, and CEDAR WAXWINGS there.

Shelley Steva heard LARK SPARROW and INDIGO BUNTING at Frenchman's Bluff
in Norman County on July 18.

In Becker County on July 21, Steve Midthune reported that there were
shorebirds at south pond at Hamden Slough NWR including LEAST SANDPIPER,
BAIRD'S SANDPIPER, WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS, GREATER YELLOWLEGS, PECTORAL
SANDPIPERS, DOWITCHER species, WILSON'S PHALAROPES, and WILSON'S SNIPE.

Thanks to Pat and Russ Wilbur, Shelley Steva, Sandy Aubol, and Steve
Midthune for their reports.
