This is the Northwest Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday, August 8,
2013 sponsored by the Detroit Lakes Regional Chamber of Commerce. You
may also hear this report by calling (218)847-5743 or 1-800-433-1888.

There have been few reports in the past two weeks, but the weather is
feeling more like fall than mid-summer. Night time temperatures have
hovered around the 45 degree mark all week. We hope that this does not
signal an early frost and that the weather warms up before that happens.
Daylight hours are decreasing rapidly now.

On July 27, Mark Otnes reported singing LE CONTE'S SPARROWS and NELSON'S
SHARP-TAILED SPARROWS along 230 Ave north of 210 St in Wilkin County.

Shelley Steva heard a FIELD SPARROW on August 4 at Glendalough State
Park in Otter Tail County on August 4.

Kim Greendahl saw an immature BALD EAGLE flying over Maple Lake in Polk
County on July 30. On August 1, Sandy Aubol had an adult PURPLE FINCH at
her feeder in East Grand Forks. On August 4, Sandy found GREEN HERON,
BELTED KINGFISHER, and SPOTTED SANDPIPER along the Red Lake River
greenway.

Thanks to Mark Otnes, Kim Greendahl, Sandy Aubol and Shelley Steva for
their reports.
