With the owling slowing down for the moment and with all the cancelled school, I
finally got caught up on blogging about all the owls I've seen recently (Snowy,
Great Gray, Northern Hawk) as well as other boreal birds from Sax-Zim and
greater St. Louis County. There are now many photos of these birds at
http://www.aboywhocriedheron.com

The reason I have seen/reported so many Snowies lately is because of the people
I work with. I took a chance a month ago by sending out an all-staff email asking
people to contact me with sightings. I multiplied my eyes by 100 and didn't have
to cruise the countryside for endless hours. That email generated reports that
led me to 3 Snowies that I saw and 3 I didn't see. A bonus was watching these
people get excited to see a Snowy Owl for the first time and take an interest,
even briefly, in birding. I'd encourage you to share your interest with non-birders.
You may see a great bird and make a new birder at the same time.
