This is the Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday May 15st, 2014.
A GLOSSY IBIS was photographed at Black Rush Lake in Lyon County on the 13th. Up to five WHITE-FACED IBIS have also seen here. Another Glossy was on the southwest side of Minnesota Lake in Faribault County on May 4th, but it has not been seen since. The location was on 493rd Avenue, two miles west and two and a quarter miles south of the lake. A WHITE-FACED IBIS was at the end of Bartlet Lake Road near the airport in Winona, Winona County on the 6th. And on the 9th, four were at Carpenter Pool in the Sherburne NWR in Sherburne County. They could be seen from Sherburne County Road 16 on the west side of the refuge.
A BLACK-NECKED STILT was in Faribault County on the 12th, on the southwest side of Minnesota Lake. The bird was in a marshy area south of the junction of 490th Avenue and 235th Street. And on the 14th another stilt was in Yellow Medicine County along the south shore of Miller Lake.
On the 11th, a BROWN PELICAN was seen briefly from the north end of the highway 61 bridge in Hastings, Washington County. It was headed down river toward Red Wing and has not been reported since.
A SAY'S PHOEBE was seen on the 7th perched on the white picket fence by the horse pastures on the north side of University of Minnesota in Crookston, Polk County. If you visit, please park in the UTOC building lot. Another was in Minneapolis on the 8th, along the Winchell Trail of the Mississippi Gorge Regional Park in Hennepin County. And one was seen in Moorhead, Clay County on the 14th, near a pond between Belsly Boulevard and 40th Avenue south.
Six RED-THROATED LOONS were on the bay side of Lake Superior in Duluth on the 8th, just out from the Park Point Recreation Area. An unidentified jaeger was reported on the lake side opposite here on the 11th.
On the 4th, a SNOWY EGRET was in Fillmore County, along Morgan Road between Chatfield and Fillmore. It was in a pond on the north side of the road at fire call #29572.
A WHIMBREL was in Rice County on the 10th, along county road 72, south of county road 12.
On the 16th, a LITTLE GULL was seen from west end park access to Lake Byllesby, in Dakota County.
A WHITE-EYED VIREO was in Carver County on the 11th, singing from the brush along the west shore of Rapids Lake. This is just east of county road 11.
On the 8th, two CAROLINA WRENS were reported from Lake Elmo Regional Park in Washington County.
A NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD was found on the 9th, four miles northwest of Spring Valley in Fillmore County. Another was in Itasca County on the 11th, in a pasture just east of the intersection of county roads 128 and 144. Another was in Redwood County on the 11th, north of 100th street and about 3-1/3 miles west of county road 6, which is about four miles south of Lamberton. And on the 16th, one was seen at the Park Point Recreation Area of Duluth.
On the 6th, a WESTERN TANAGER was at the Brooklyn Park Environmental Area in Hennepin County. Another was along Echo Drive just east of Washington County Road 11 on the 8th. A SUMMER TANAGER was at Myre Big Island state park in Freeborn County. It was found behind the interpretive center on May 8th. On the 11th, another was near the town of Courtland in Blue Earth County, in a gravel pit southeast of the intersection of state highway 68 and county road 47. A Summer Tanager is coming to a feeder on the east side of Lake Independence in Maple Plain, Hennepin County. And on the 14th, one was at Afton State Park in Washington County, near the southern end of the Trout Brook Loop Trail.
