Hello: This morning around 6:30 a small wave was in our backyard here in Austin along Turtle Creek. Among the warblers and Rose-breasted Grosbeaks there appeared to be a Western Tanager. The light was poor with clouds but I could see the bird was larger than a warbler and I could see the reddish-orange around the bill and head extending down the front throat. The bird was facing me at a distance of around 30 yards. I saw it for a few seconds and then it flew off towards the north and has not returned. I have seen them before out west. With that color I described I do not know what else it could have been.

Thanks, Robert Jessen, Austin
