This is the Duluth Birding Report for March 19th, 2015 sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

The COMMON EIDER present in the Duluth/Superior area since November was still present on the 18th at the Barker's Island bridge in Superior, Wisconsin. Dan Belter saw a THAYER’S GULL and a GLAUCOUS GULL at the same location on the 15th and a GADWALL on the 18th.

Also in Superior, an adult gray-phase GYRFALCON has been seen as recently as the 14th at the Peavey grain elevators along Connor's Point Road off US Highway 53, about a half mile east of the Blatnik Bridge. Birders are reminded to remain on Connor’s Point Road and not trespass on private property in the area.

Recent new arrivals in the area include MERLIN near Two Harbors on the 16th, LAPLAND LONGSPUR north of Grand Marais on the 16th, NORTHERN FLICKER in Chester Bowl on the 17th and AMERICAN TREE SPARROW in Duluth on the 19th.
