Went looking for the gyrfalcon in superior today, but with no luck. Maybe
tomorrow! We stopped at the Barker's island bridge at 4 pm and found the
common eider resting on the ice next to a male and female mallard alongside
the bridge. There was a mixed flock of mallards, Canada geese and an
American black duck on the other side of the bridge. At 4:20 we saw a
rough-legged hawk hunting along the road just off of the 525 bridge (Duluth
side). Only other species of note was a flock of 10-15 common goldeneyes
under the 525 bridge superior side (around 3:40). I will try to get some
pics on Flickr soon!
