This is the Northwest Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday, September
3, 2015 sponsored by the Detroit Lakes Regional Chamber of Commerce. You
may also hear this report by calling (218)847-5743 or 1-800-433-1888.

This has been a pleasant week in the northwest, warmer than last week,
but only really hot in the last two or three days. We are starting to
notice the thinning of the bird species now as the early migrants are
leaving. Days for birding are noticeable shorter now, especially for
those whose work is during the main part of the day.

Many observers have seen the SNOWY EGRET at the North Ottawa Impoundment
in Grant County, and it was still there as of August 29.

In Polk County, Russ Wilbur reported three RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS and a
BALTIMORE ORIOLE at the East Grand Forks campground on August 31. Emily
and young EASTERN PHOEBES, and HOUSE FINCHES on September 1.

Emily was in Kittson County on August 29 where she saw SHARP-TAILED
GROUSE near Cariboo WMA. Shelley Steva and I found a juvenile COOPER'S
HAWK “parked” on a park bench in the town of Kennedy on August 29. Also
in Kittson County, we found AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN, SANDHILL CRANES, and
a flock of CEDAR WAXWINGS.

Thanks to Emily Hutchins, and Russ Wilbur for their reports.
