Hi Andrew, The new SDD detectors are so much more reliable than the old Si(Li) detectors. We have a Bruker SDD on our SX50 and a Thermo SDD on our Sx100 and also our FEI Quanta and we've never had a single problem. I would highly recommend either. john On 12/17/2015 2:58 PM, Andrew Locock wrote: > > Hello, > > We are considering replacing the Noran Si(Li) detector on our JEOL > microprobe with an SDD-EDS system. > > Can I ask for opinions as to the longevity of such systems? > > Our Noran system has lasted very well, but has limited capability by > comparison. > > Thanks very much for your assistance. > > Andrew > > Andrew Locock, PhD > > Electron Probe Microanalyzer (EPMA) Lab Manager > > Dept. of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences > > B-10 Earth Sciences Building > > University of Alberta > > Edmonton, Alberta, Canada T6G 2E3 > > Tel: 780-492-3191 > > Fax: 780-492-2030 > > www.eas.ualberta.ca/eml/ > > **** JEOL Probe Users Listserver > > Moderator: Anette von der Handt, [log in to unmask], Electron Microprobe > Lab, University of Minnesota > > Post a message: send your message to [log in to unmask] > > Unsubscribe: send "SIGNOFF PROBEUSERS" to [log in to unmask] > > On-line help and FAQ: http://probelab.geo.umn.edu/listserver.html > > * > -- John J.
