Hi Andrew,
The new SDD detectors are so much more reliable than the old Si(Li) detectors.  We have a Bruker SDD on our SX50 and a Thermo SDD on our Sx100 and also our FEI Quanta and we've never had a single problem.

I would highly recommend either.

Hello,

We are considering replacing the Noran Si(Li) detector on our JEOL microprobe with an SDD-EDS system.

Can I ask for opinions as to the longevity of such systems?

Our Noran system has lasted very well, but has limited capability by comparison.

Thanks very much for your assistance.

Andrew
