This is the Northwest Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday, February
18, 2016 sponsored by the Detroit Lakes Regional Chamber of Commerce.
You may also hear this report by calling (218)847-5743 or
1-800-433-1888.

We are currently having a period of very mild weather, and so far most
of the northwest has escaped the freezing rain and drizzle. There has
been much activity among the resident bird species, but not much
evidence of movement yet. Several flocks of AMERICAN ROBINS have been
reported in the region and numbers seem to be increasing.

Meg and Rick Andrews from Reno, Nevada observed a NORTHERN HAWK OWL
along MN 310 8.5 miles north of Roseau on February 12. This bird has
been seen on and off all winter, and is presumed to be a local resident.
Mike Thiele reported PILEATED WOODPECKERS , WHITE-BREASTED NUTHATCHES,
RED-BREASTED NUTHATCHES, BLUE JAYS, EVENING GROSBEAKS, and PINE
GROSBEAKS in Warroad this week.

A pair of PILEATED WOODPECKERS has been visiting our suet feeders this
week east of Thief River Falls in Pennington County. The three-toed
woodpecker reported in Thief River Falls by Donald Stewart last week has
not reappeared, so it evidently has moved on.

Shelley Steva saw 15 GRAY PARTRIDGES one mile north of Oklee in Red Lake
County on February 11.

Thanks to Don Stewart, Mike Thiele, Meg and Rick Andrews, and Shelley
Steva for their reports.

Please report bird sightings to Jeanie Joppru by email, no later than
Thursday each week, at [log in to unmask] OR call the Detroit Lakes
Chamber's toll free number: 1-800-542-3992. Detroit Lakes area birders
please call 847-9202. Please include the county where the sighting took
place. The next scheduled update of this report is Thursday, February
25, 2016.
