Several of us went out with Gary Swanson’s Ornithology class to the Bass Ponds. We saw 64 species. Among them were Black and White, Tennessee , Orange Crown and Yellow Warblers as well as a couple of Northern Waterthrush. We saw four maybe five Dowitchers a lifer for me and heard a least flycatcher. A clay colored sparrow posed for us and other shore birds included, Lesser yellowlegs, Solitary , spotted, and semipalmated sandpipers. Also Barn, cliff tree and bank swallows. We heard a couple of Baltimore Orioles but I never got a good look at one but they’ll be in my yard any day now. A female Hooded merganser with about six chicks was quite a treat to see and a single eastern towhee was heard. It felt like we were finally seeing some good birds.
