Despite miserable weather (thunderstorms last night and rain showers most of today, offshore winds 15+ mph, and temps falling into the high 40's this afternoon) the Calliope Hummingbird was still alert and healthy looking as of 5:50 PM today (6/15). While I was present, it foraged within the Siberian pea shrub on the north side of the boardwalk and returned to same perch under the canopy of the pea shrub. At least once yesterday, it was seen using the feeder on the south side of the boardwalk. Clearing conditions are forecast for tomorrow which may induce the bird to depart. Vagrant hummingbirds at feeders often "tank up" very early in the morning before departing. Whether this applies to this particular bird is anyone's guess.
