This is the Duluth Birding Report for November 17th, 2016 sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

A NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD was found by Alex Lamoreaux on the 16th near the rowing club and Southworth Marsh on Park Point in Duluth. Alex also had two very late flyover AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS at Park Point on the 16th.

Jan and Larry Kraemer found two PACIFIC LOONS at the Park Point Recreation area on the 5th and they were seen again on the 6th. A flock of seven GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE was seen flying over Hawk Ridge on the 7th, and one was found by Josh Lefever on the 13th at Wisconsin Point, flying with a flock of five ROSS'S GEESE.

As many as seven THAYER'S GULLS are being reported from Canal Park and 11 have been seen on the Minnesota side of the Superior Entry. ICELAND GULL, GLAUCOUS GULL, and GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULLS were also reported from the Superior Entry as recently as the 13th.

A TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE was seen on the 16th in Two Harbors at Lake Country Road 2 (4th Street) and 10th Avenue, across from the Lake View Clinic. Alex Lamoreaux and Josh Lefever found a juvenile BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKE on the 7th at Agate Bay in Two Harbors, but it has not been relocated. The juvenile RED-THROATED LOON at Agate Bay was last reported on the 9th by Peder Svingen.

A WHITE-WINGED SCOTER was seen as recently as the 14th in the Grand Marais, and Dan Versaw reported one on the 12th at the Beaver Bay sewage lagoons. Peder Svingen saw two BLACK SCOTERS on the 11th at Bayfront Park. LONG-TAILED DUCKS continue to be seen in Two Harbors between Burlington Bay and Agate Bay, and at Good Harbor Bay west of Grand Marais.

Tony Lau saw a SPRUCE GROUSE on the 13th on Lake County Road 2 near the Sand River, and another along the Stoney River Forest Road.
