We had anti-static carpet installed 24 years ago in the (then new) probe. Worked great for a year or two. Problem is that people wore their street shoes and in winter, esp, brought in all kind of junk. This eventually negated the coating. I then tried to follow instructions for cleaning carpet and applying the manufacturer’s spray coating….eventually gave up. For new (2014) probe lab, we had antistatic tiles, and new rule, no street shoes (or wear booties). So my vote is for tiles.

Dear Probers,

We  have had good luck with the carpeting in this brochure. I am pretty sure we got the ShadowFX carpet squares. It has helped a lot with our static problems we had with the FTIR, which is housed with the microprobe.  It must be installed properly i.e., using their conductive adhesive plus being grounded with a copper strip beneath the carpet tiles.  It is not difficult.

Dear probers,

I am in another round with my architects as the original plan for polished concrete for my new lab fell through (the original floor was in too poor shape) and we are back to VCT tiles or other floor options.

We are now looking at anti-static floor tiles or rubber floors. Obviously there are many flooring types available in the realm of anti-static, static dissipative and static conductive floors and some may even have some effect on vibration (?).

Does anyone have an opinion or can recommend a product or type of product?

Thanks!

Anette
