>Hey ..... > We are just about to get a Yamaha 4x CD-R, anyone have one? >Also I want to be able to not only archive pictures but record >video, sound and backup CD's. I was informed to be able to do this, >you need an AV drive (audio visual), I believe it has to do with the >transfer rate and the throughput. To backup CD to CD-R, you need a step >faster on the CD -- 4x CD, 2x CD-R -- 6x CD, 4x CD-R ... ~TODD~ I have a Yamaha 4X CD-R Writer which will write a full 650MB in 20 mins. The media costs $7/disk. I purchased the Yamaha Writer in a mini tower with a 1GB Hard Disk for $2,500. The unit is portable (moves between image acquisition stations with ease). I partitioned the HD into a 650MB partition for data (capacity of the CD-Rom) and 350MB for software, so the CD-R Writer software goes with the Writer, along with disk utilities, etc. Very convenient. I highly recommend this approach.
