Dear Xuejun,
The potential to damage a lens is not limited to Zeiss motorized
stages. The ASI motorized stage on our Axiovert 200 will also smack
the objectives adjacent to the currently used lens. Also, even if the
stage is merely close to, but not touching, the adjacent lenses,
hitting a button to rotate lenses can scrape the end of a lens against
the lower edge of the sample carrier. The 40X/.75 NA PlanNeofluor
projects slightly higher than the 63X Planapo.
At least with the ASI stage the travel limits in X and Y are easily
set, so we haven't damaged a lens, yet.
