How about carboxyfluorescein? Lucifer Yellow is the best tracer
to study endocytosis for me, except using with 488nm laser.
Thus I am using carboxyfluorescein as a replacement of LY. It
may not be fixable and there observed unvigorous fluorescence
in cytosole, which might be caused by leaking before or after
fixation. But still I could see the similar structure as in the
prep of LW.
Also I have tried the fixable FITC-dextran of Molecular Prob.
However I could not get enough fluorescence from the fine
structure.
You can refere the usage of carboxyfluorecscein to;

pp.251-263
I hope somebody post better dye, which can be used as an tracer
under 488nm observation.
