We use ImageVolumes from Minnesota Datametrics on an SGI Indigo2 XZ. This
program has several integrated modules which allow a variety of image
processing options as well as fast reconstruction and rendering. There also
is considerable scope for editing the data that goes into the 3D model,
including the facility for generating editable vector maps of each slice in
the model. It is very easy in this program to adjust the Z-spacing of the
slices...

In our hands this program is orders of magnitude faster than the BioRad
Lasersharp processing running on a 150 MHz Pentium. (It is also
faster than the public domain programs we have on the SGI, such as
VolVis). However, our SGI does at least some of its 3D processing in
hardware - it is a lot slower without the XZ processor. The amount of RAM
also is important to the speed of things. We have been using 64 MB with 132
MB virtual ram on disk. We are about to upgrade to 288 MB real ram...

Hope that helps,
IAN
