Anything that works on other cell will work for neurons!! It depends on
what you want to see in the cells... Phosphate-buffered formaldehyde (2%)
and picric acid (0.2%) (Zamboni's fixative) works really well for most
neuropeptides, enzymes and structural proteins. You can leave out the
picric acid and things usually still work well. In some cases, e.g some
subclasses of neurofilament proteins, the best results are seen in unfixed
tissue. You just have to try!
