UNIVERSITY OF LIVERPOOL
SCHOOL OF BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES, CENTRE FOR CELL IMAGING

Applications are invited for four posts in the Centre for Cell Imaging.
The major aims of the research within the Centre are to develop novel
dynamic imaging techniques for integrated studies of transcription,
molecular localisation and ion concentrations in living cells. Superb
facilities are available for these projects.

Post 1: Post-doctoral researcher funded by the MRC for up to 5 years, to
apply novel imaging techniques to study the physiological relationship
between transcription and intracellular calcium in living cells during the
mammalian cell cycle. Initial salary within the range £15,735 - £17,570
pa. Quote Ref: B/010 (a)

Post 2: Post-doctoral researcher funded by Astra Charnwood, Division of
Astra Pharmaceuticals Ltd for 2 years initially, to investigate gene
expression changes following treatment of cells with toxins. The project
will involve DNA chip technology and single cell transcription imaging.
(Industrial contact: Dr Elaine Sullivan, email:

£15,735 - £17,570 pa. Quote Ref: B/010 (b)

Applicants for posts 1 and 2 should have a PhD or equivalent in Molecular
Cell Biology or a related subject. Experience in cell imaging,
microinjection, or gene expression analysis would bean advantage.

Post 3: Teaching company associate funded by the DTI and Kinetic Imaging
Ltd. through the Teaching Company Scheme. Available for 2.5 years in the
first instance, to develop and apply new software to integrate hardware and
biological assays for automated multi-parameter digital microscopy.
Candidates will have a BSc or PhD in bio-molecular sciences or computer
sciences. This is an opportunity for a computer literate biologist with
good presentation skills and a basic experience of bio-imaging techniques.
You will spend significant amounts of time working at Kinetic Imaging Ltd,
an innovative software company based in Liverpool (contact: Dr Mark Browne,
