Hello everyone,
Please refer to the end of this message regarding an ad for a 2-year
postdoctoral
fellowship with our group at Mayo Clinic Rochester, Minnesota. Please
forward to anyone who may be looking for such a position.
As detailed in the attachment, the position is for 2 years (although
Mayo offers the position 1 year at a time, with renewals every year; it
is just something we do here). The fellowship is for work relating to
our grants in airway smooth muscle, and the successful candidate will
work with Drs. Gary Sieck (Prof and Chair, Physiology and Biomedical
Engineering), Christina Pabelick (Asst Professor of Anesthesiology) and
myself (Associate Professor of Anesthesiology) and with other personnel
in the laboratories of Dr. Sieck (Cell Imaging and Physiology) and Drs.
Pabelick/Prakash (Cardiac and Lung Cell Biology).
Please feel free to contact either my secretary (Nadine 507 255 7481) or
Dr. Sieck's secretary (Maureen 507 255 8488) if you have any questions
or are interested in setting up a phone interview.
Thanks.

POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP
Investigator: Gary Sieck, Ph. D. Professor and Chair
Summary
A post-doctoral position is available to study smooth muscle physiology
and pathophysiology. The work is to be conducted within a large
multidisciplinary laboratory group consisting of established and
upcoming investigators with highly experienced support staff and
state-of-the-art resources. The successful candidate will have
established experience (papers, presentations at national/international
meetings, grants) in many (but not all) of the following: 1) regulation
of calcium in smooth muscle and/or endothelium, especially of the airway
and vasculature; b) cell imaging techniques such as brightfield,
fluorescence and confocal microscopy c) transgenic and knock out animal
models, d) basic techniques in biochemistry and molecular biology (e.g.
gel electrophoresis, siRNA technology). The major focus of the
candidate's work in the laboratory will be smooth muscle and/or
endothelial cell calcium regulation in normal cells as well as in models
such as sepsis and inflammation. The candidate will be expected to
develop and execute independent research plans leading to at least 2
peer-reviewed publications per year. He/She should be comfortable
working within a large group of research personnel, with excellent oral
and written communication skills. Maximum consideration will be given to
candidates with first author publications and motivation and initiative
towards independence. Although the candidate's salary will be fully
supported by intramural as well as extramural (NIH) funding, he/she will
be expected to initiate progress towards independence via submission of
research grant proposals. Mayo Clinic is a non-profit organization that
