Open position at Harvard Medical School, Boston MA:

Optical Imaging Manager, HCNR

The HCNR is a community of researchers who seek to reduce the impact of
neurodegenerative disease. By providing the broader Harvard community with
cutting edge resources and intellectual capital, we promote the speedy
conversion of neuroscience discoveries into clinically relevant
interventions. We are now seeking an Optical Imaging Manager to oversee our
Optical Imaging Program based at Harvard Medical School.

Duties And Responsibilities
As HCNR's Optical Imaging Manager the incumbent will establish, maintain and
oversee daily operations of the HCNR's Optical Imaging Program
(www.hcnr.med.harvard.edu). This program provides state-of-the-art optical
imaging resources and technical expertise to the greater Boston neuroscience
research community and includes confocal, multi-photon and deconvolution
microscopes, and integrated computer systems and software. The Manager will
provide training, technical support and advice to constituent scientists
(faculty, post-doctoral fellows and students) and participate in the design
and execution of protocols to facilitate cutting edge research. S/He is
responsible for maintenance of the facility workplace to ensure a safe,
clean and efficient working environment for users and the general
administration of the facility: including management of budget and
expenditures, ordering of equipment and consumables, and the oversight of
the billing system that collects user-fees.

The position holder will establish relationships with researchers across the
broader Harvard medical community as well as other interested parties in
industry and other academic institutions. The post holder must also work
closely with hardware and software vendors to ensure optimal technical
support for the facility and to keep abreast of the latest developments in
imaging technology. S/He is expected to be proactive in looking for ways to
better meet the needs of the neurodegenerative disease research community.

Required Education, Experience and Skills
Relevant Bachelor's degree required, Masters degree preferred. 3+ years of
relevant experience required. Experience should include management and
technical skills in the following areas: multi-user confocal and/or
multi-photon imaging, lab safety and hazardous waste compliance and computer
operations. The applicant must have the ability to train scientists to use
optical imaging equipment and to develop and deliver guidance and policies
in written and oral form. Problem solving and interpersonal skills
applicable to all levels of the organization are essential.
